If you're new to VoIP we're sure you have questions. Here's some general FAQs to help you along.

What is VoIP?

VoIP stands for Voice over Internet Protocol: the practice of using an Internet connection in place of the standard public switched telephone network (PSTN) to send voice data.

How do you make calls over a VoIP connection?

Calls are made the same way you would make them with an ordinary telephone. The only difference is that you use an IP phone that is plugged into an Ethernet connection instead of a phone jack because the call is made digitally over the Internet.

What are the benefits of VoIP?

Why should I choose a VoIP phone service?

VoIP is a great way to reduce phone bills and to improve professional appearance. Many features are included, such as Auto Attendants, Dial-by-Name Directory, Virtual Departments and Call Queues, helping to make customer communication more streamlined, professional and efficient.

How much technical skill is required to set-up and use the service?

There are virtually no technical skills required. The IP phones are ‘plug-and-play’, meaning they will arrive ready to make and receive calls the instant they are plugged into a broadband connection, right out of the box. The account settings can be administered easily from our user-friendly online interface.

What charges can I expect each month?

DigiPBX offers 3 distinct plans depending on the size of your business, monthly plans are as low as $24.99 per extension.

Does DigiPBX Hosted-PBX replace my phone system?

Yes, DigiPBX replaces expensive and outdated phone system hardware and eliminates the need to buy new equipment as well as replaces your current local and long distance phone serivce provider.

Can I keep my current phone number(s)?

Yes, you may transfer your phone to DigiPBX by completing a LOA form and submitting a copy of your current phone bill. Please note: There are some phone numbers (vanity numbers specifically) that are not portable by your current carrier. DigiPBX recommends you contact your current phone provider to ensure that you are able to transfer ALL of you phones numbers to us.

Do I need to invest in expensive hardware?

No hardware aside from the phones themselves is required, however you may choose to add accessories to the phones such as headphones, handsets, and extension modules – offered at affordable prices for your business.

I have more than one office. Do I need more than one account?

No, one account provides access to the services wherever you are or combines remote offices to work as one unit no matter how far they may be from one another. This allows employees to work from home as well as connecting multiple office locations.

How is the quality of VoIP?

The quality of an Internet-based call depends on its network, which in our case is a private connection and therefore great quality. Calls made over public Internet are usually of lesser quality because of Internet traffic. DigiPBX helps to eliminate this.

What is a hosted PBX?

A PBX (private branch exchange) is a telephone system often used by businesses to reroute external calls through a network of internal lines. It is software, and can replace old hardware PBX. A virtual PBX is both cheaper and more useful than the hardware PBX, as it does not require much installation or upkeep but also allows for many add-ons and extensions.

Can I use my VoIP service on my smartphone?

Yes, you may use VoIP across a variety of devices.

What is a softphone?

A softphone allows you to make calls over the Internet, from a computer or other device.

If I lose power will I still be able to make calls?

You don't have to. This depends largely if your network has a backup power source, but if so then there will be no interruption and you will continue to be able to make calls. If this does not work for your current office environment DigiPBX has other options that we recommend so that you will never lose a call even under the worst of circumstances.

What is a virtual number?

A virtual number is a telephone number that is not a direct line. Incoming calls are forwarded to a number, chosen by you.

Will 911 work on my phones?

Yes. 911 can work for any location that has a DigiPBX phone. *additional fees apply.

What is a LOA?

LOA stands for Letter of Authorization, a document needed by us in order to begin your porting process. It allows us to request the phone number from your current provider in order to begin service under us. It includes information such as your name, address, and telephone numbers.

How many phone lines can I have on a single account?

Your phone system can have as many lines as you need and is completely scalable to any business. New accounts can start as small as a single extension and grow indefinitely.

How much Internet Bandwidth do I need?

Each active call with DigiPBX requires approximately 64 kbps up/down of bandwidth from a DSL, Cable, T1, or Fiber broadband connection.

Do you have ring groups/call groups/virtual departments?

Call Queues and Ring Groups are included with all monthly unlimited plans. Now you can route calls any way you like without the worry of extra monthly fees!

What software do I need to install?

There is no software needed. DigiPBX’s service is entirely web-based and can be accessed from anywhere you have an Internet connection.

What speed Internet do I need?

The speed required will depend on a few characteristics of your business, including the number of users will be on the Internet and how many will be using the phone at the same time.

What is a static IP address?

A static IP address means that it will stay consistent with your devices. This helps in forwarding calls to the numbers you choose for your phones.

Do I need a static IP address?

While you do not need a static IP address, it can be helpful in preventing your business’s IP from getting blocked by customers who wish to block SPAM coming from other sites near your business. This is a personal decision however, as it can be less cost effective and less secure to own a static IP.

Can I manage my own phone system?

Yes, you can choose to manage your PBX as in depth as you choose or we can do it for you.

DigiPBX can train your employees to handle their own account. Add/remove your own extensions, assign phone numbers, add queues and ring groups, and more! All done easily from your web browser.

Can I use my current VoIP phones?

Yes, in most cases you can. Contact a DigiPBX support agent with the make and model of your phone to confirm if we can use them for your DigiPBX service.

If I move the phone(s) somewhere else will they still work?

Yes, your phones can work from anywhere there is an internet connection.

I am trying to call internationally but I do not seem to be connecting. What could the problem be?

Depending on your phone system setup, International calling may be restricted by specific country or disabled entirely. To enable international calling to one or all countries simply contact support and let us know the details. Changes can be made in most cases right away.

How long will it take for support to complete my requested changes on our account?

Most requests are completed within minutes. There are, however, some more involved features that may take slightly longer to enable. Time frame completion is normally quick but is determined by the scope of the work.

Do you do VoIP Trunking?

How do I find my public IP address?

It's easy! Most phones show the IP address within the menu options on your screen. Also, sites such as IPchicken.com and whatismyip.com are quick and easy ways to locate your IP address.

If I add extensions will the price per ext. go down?

Yes, we offer 3 pricing tiers based on ext. counts.

Can I add an extension anytime during the billing period?

Yes. Extensions can be added and/or removed at any time.

What payment methods do you accept?
